Our first ceremonious interviewee has entered the circle. I love this woman. Most people who meet her describe some sort of unobtainable air of mystery, they can never quite get to it. The same way incense smoke dances along the air. Like that tumbling, sprawling smoke, movement is the focus of this first interview and it's one very close to my heart. What do you consider your most valued 'daily practice'? Every day I carve out some time to move my body in some way. Lately I’ve been running but sometimes it’s yoga, sometimes it’s dancing in my lounge room or in a studio, sometimes it’s a sweaty gym class, sometimes it’s a swim. It doesn’t really matter what the movement is, but it matters that I move. What is it about that practice that made you continue doing it as a repeated ritual? Moving my body keeps me sane. It’s time in my day where I can either not think at all, or let my brain wander and go where it needs to go with no interruptions. It’s like a little treat to myself and I notice if it’s missing. What are thoughts on the phrase 'how you live your day is how you live your life' I’ve never thought of it like this before; of life as just one long day. For me, I like a little bit of routine and a little bit of chance in my day to day life and I guess that does translate to life as well. I’d like to think small daily practices impact your life in a bigger sense, and vice versa. I think they definitely inform one another. What's something you'd like to start doing daily? I’d really like to keep up with a daily journal. I do it if and when I feel I need to write things down but I think there’s something special about doing it daily. Especially to be able to look back at a chaotic time like this and remember my daily thoughts and fears would be quite beautiful. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- When we take the time to move daily, in some way, we are acknowledging that we prioritise our health. Be that physical or mental health. We're dedicating time to give back to the home we live in, to ourselves, after giving energy to other people, jobs, children, pets, to do lists- all day. As Eve implied, daily movement doesn't have to be a repeated chore but rather an exploration of your current state performed physically. How did movement manifest for you today? (Hint, sleeping counts)
